Max Lewis Carpenter, 84, of Lancaster, passed away March 29th, 2014. He was born June 20, 1929 in Rockbridge, Ohio. He graduated from Enterprise High School in Hocking County in 1947, then moved to Lancaster and lived there the remainder of his life. He was employed by Standard Oil Company for 41years. A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Max logged over 350,000 miles travelling the country. He was a Korean War Veteran having served in the Special Category Army Personnel with the Air Force (SCARWA). Max was a past Worshipful Master of Lancaster Masonic Lodge #57.
Max is survived by his wife, Raphaella Peni Carpenter; daughters, Tonda (Charles) McGiffin of Carroll, and Mia Carpenter of Bremen; sons, Michael (Jo) Carpenter of Athens, Mark (Pati) Carpenter of Lancaster; grandchildren, Misty McGiffin, Scott (Holly) McGiffin, Corey Ruff, Casey Ruff, Kate Carpenter, Robert Carpenter, Kierstin Hoalcraft, and Eric Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Clayton Dunn, Hunter Ruff, Zach McGiffin, Cami Ruff and Kayla McGiffin.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, Claude C. and Florence V. Carpenter; and brothers, Richard E. and Joe P. Carpenter.

A funeral service will take place at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at 10:30AM. Burial will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail.
