Mary E. Woltz “Betty Dykes” went home to be with her Savior on April 16th, 2016. She was a 1949 Lancaster High School Graduate and a 1953 graduate of Asbury College in Wilmore, KY. Betty taught second and third grades at West Elementary from 1953 to 1958. She stayed home for 10 years to raise a family of three sons. She returned to teaching in 1968 at Talmage Elemetary and retired in 1991. She was an active member of the Hubert Ave. Baptist Church (which became First Baptist Church). She and her husband Creighton Woltz worked with Youth Groups, Vacation Bible School, and taught Sunday School. Her hobbies were spending time with her family, working with children, and working with flowers. She wrote that “It is my prayer that if you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior that you will do it today.”
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Creighton L. Woltz; sons, James C. (Jackie), John M. (Tricia), and Joel S. (Linda) Woltz; eight grandchildren, J.C. (Natalie), Wrenissa, Chris, Kian, Zane, and Eli Woltz, Brandon Kentopp, Shane Kentopp, and Rebecca Roscoe; great-grandchildren, Grace, Cary, Noah, Sophia Woltz, and Elizabeth Coyer; brother, David (Sue) Dykes; and sister-in-law, Eileen Dykes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Fred Sr. and Angie Whitaker Dykes; brother, James Fred. Dykes Jr.; and nephew, James Fred Dykes III.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 1PM at the First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. John K. Beckett. Burial will follow the service at Forest Rose Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME from 5PM until 7PM on Monday and one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
