Harlan
Mary Ann (Robertson) Harlan, 84, of Lancaster, passed away in Columbus on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, from complications resulting from a fall.
Born on January 22, 1930, and raised in Gibson County, TN, Mary Ann was the daughter of the late Jonathan J. Jack and Mabel (Anderson) Robertson. She was a 1948 graduate of Peabody High School (TN). After attending Blue Mountain College, MS, and Harris Art School in Nashville, she was an illustrator for Brys Department Store in Memphis. A devoted Navy wife, Mary Ann and her late husband, Carl, raised five children, relocating several times across the U.S. Following Carls retirement from the USN, his subsequent employment with Anchor Hocking brought them to Lancaster.
Mary Ann was a gifted artist and was a member of the Ohio Watercolor Society, the Central Ohio Watercolor Society, the Lancaster Art Guild, and the Collage Group of Women Artists. She enjoyed her painting trips to France. Her watercolors and oils are in collections across the country. A lifelong learner, she was a self-taught saxophonist and continued her education in many creative areas, including art history, painting, cake decorating, flower arranging, and piano. Having completed a course in genealogy, Mary Ann proudly traced the Robertson and Harlan lines back several generations. She also had a magic touch with flowers. A beloved mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Roland) Morris of NC; Sharon (Ronald) Porter of Rockbridge; Terri Harlan of Lancaster; Sandra (Ron Gautreau) Cardin of CA; and son Jon Harlan of Lancaster; granddaughters Melissa (Keith) Jolly of NC; Monique (Bryan) Palumbo and Michelle Cardin of CA; Stacy Porter of Athens; and Robin (Wesley) Graham of Aurora; 5 great-grandchildren; sister Peggy R.
