Mary Barker

Mary M. (Williams) Barker joined her Heavenly Father and her Family and friends in Heaven on May 15, 2018.

She was born on January 4, 1931 to Dorothy and Henry Williams in Lancaster. Mary had three sisters and four brothers. Phyllis (Charles) Zerface, Dorothy May Williams, and Janet (Kenny) De Long. Her brothers were Robert (Joretta), Richard (Thelma), Jerry (Janice), and William (Carol) Jr. Surviving siblings are Janet, Jerry and William Jr.

She married Donald Barker in June of 1950. They raised three sons, Donald Jr., Franklin Daniel (Nancy Herget) Barker, and Fredric Randolph (Gina) Barker. Don Jr. was killed by a DUI driver in Texas in 1988.

Mary became a cosmetologist in 1970, then was with Ginny’s Beauty Parlor for several years. Mary joined Anchor Hocking in their financial department. Don worked at Anchor in the engineering department. When Anchor Hocking sold the Container division to a private party, Mary and Don transferred to Tampa, Florida. She worked in accounts payable for Anchor Glass Container Corp. until she retired in 1992. Don retired in 1993. They then began traveling to many places. Alaska, Hawaii, England, Europe, Japan, and China. She really enjoyed traveling.

Grandchildren were one of her pride and joys. Several grandchildren stayed with grandmother Mary and grandpa for extended times in Ohio and Tampa, Florida. Eric (Rachel) Barker was the first, then Brandy (Jeff) Shaw, then Zachery, and Justin (Danielle) Barker. Great grandchildren, Caleb Shaw, Ashlee Barker, and Hazel River Barker 15 months old.

During her stay at the Lanfair Nursing Home in Lancaster, she was most excited when her grandchildren visited. Her blue eyes literally lit up. She was happy at Lanfair and the staff did a fine job as she coped with her health problems. Hospice provided her with skilled comfort in her last days. She received the Episcopal Church Last Rites on May 10. It was a beautiful service by Fr. Bill Pursley and Deacon England. The family has received many prayers and support and all blessings.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at St. John’s Episcopal Church134 North Broad Street, Lancaster, OH, 43130 with The Rev’d G. William Pursley officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Lancaster. Family and friends may visit from 2-4 P.M. and again from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home on Friday. Eastern Star Services will take place at 7:30 P.M. on Friday.
