Mary Jo (Fisher) Alexander 90 of Millersport, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Licking Memorial Hospital.
Mary Jo was best known for her compassion, sense of humor and tenacious work ethic when it came to her church, her family and the family owned marine business, Alexander’s Landing on Buckeye Lake in Millersport, Ohio.
She was also very passionate for The Ohio State Buckeyes and an avid fan of Ohio State Football. She and her husband of over 60 years, Donald Jesse Alexander had seasonal football tickets to the Buckeye home games, and come rain or shine, sleet or snow, they sat together in the “horseshoe” to watch the games from the stands every other Saturday. On Sundays, they were both at Fairfield Baptist Church. Mary Jo was a lifelong member of the church. She played the piano during services and Don taught Sunday school.
Donald Alexander, her loving husband, passed away on January 4, 2013.
Mary Jo Fisher was born August 2, 1926, to the late Elsie (Cook) Fisher and Dewey Fisher of Thurston, Ohio. Mary Jo’s father, Dewey Fisher, lovingly built the home located on South Bank Road, across from the marina, for his daughter, Mary Jo. This was the home where she and Don raised their three children, Chris Alexander of Millersport, Ohio, Eric (Robin) of Naples, FL and Anita Alexander (deceased) of Millersport. Mary Jo was the youngest of three. Her sister, Jeanne Ramey (deceased), was the eldest and her brother, Paul Fisher, still lives in Sebring, Florida.
Mary Jo was a graduate of Thurston High School and was a cheerleader. She also enjoyed the trombone in the band. After graduation, she attended Bliss Business School in Columbus, Ohio. She remained a member of the Fairfield Baptist Church, and served on the board of the Greater Buckeye Lake Historical Society.
