Mark T. “Bam Bam” Alkire, age 54, a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, took his last breath on November 14, 2024, at his residence in Millersport. He was born on February 9, 1970, and from that moment, the world was graced with the presence of a remarkable individual whose life was defined by his uncanny ability to bring things together—be it through the precision of his construction work or the strength of his unwavering spirit.

Mark, known affectionately as "Bam Bam," earned this moniker during his time in construction. His remarkable talent for driving nails in just two hits became legendary among his peers. As one of the best welders around, he didn’t just build; he created with passion, transforming raw materials into sturdy, lasting structures. His hands bore the testimony of a life spent laboring to hone his skills, and there was little he couldn’t fix or improve. Mark's infectious enthusiasm for woodworking, tinkering, and all things construction mirrored his devotion to his family—a devotion that manifested in countless acts of love and support, especially for his loving mother and cherished son.

Mark’s proudest accomplishment, beyond the tangible manifestations of his handiwork, was his role as a father to his son, Phillip Alkire, whom he cherished deeply. The bond they shared was a testament to Mark’s character, reflecting the pride and joy he found in being a parent. In every project completed and every nail driven, his love for Phillip resonated strongly, making the family home a space filled with joy and encouragement.

Outside of work, Mark held another identity—a formidable hero. A 4th degree black belt in Karate, he displayed extraordinary courage when it mattered most. Two incidents etched in memory not only showcased his martial prowess but also highlighted the heart of a protector. Once, he foiled a convenience store robbery, capturing the attention of those around him. Another time, he courageously intervened in an assault, defending his construction colleague against three attackers. This extraordinary act of valor played out like a gripping scene from an action film, renowned for its bravery—actions that would bring pride to anyone who knew him.

But even a hero faced his trials. Mark fought valiantly against a longtime struggle with seizures—a battle that ultimately claimed his life. While this struggle marked his existence with challenges, it was met with resilience and determination, showcasing the strength that governed both his personal and professional lives.

Mark's legacy, however, extends beyond his achievements. He leaves behind a loving mother, Virginia “Ginny” Pargeon, , his amazing son, Phillip Alkire, a devoted brother Timothy (Beth) Alkire, and a blended family that includes step-siblings Jeff (Anne) Pargeon, Theresa (John) Brunney, and Donna (John) Blair. Several nieces and nephews knew him as a gentle giant, someone who was always there to lend a hand or share a laugh.

As we mourn the passing of Mark T. "Bam Bam" Alkire, we also remember the joy he brought into our lives. A family man, an extraordinary craftsman, and a brave guardian—he lived life fully and passionately, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him. May his spirit continue to inspire and bring warmth to those who loved him.
