Marjorie "Marjorie Y. Ucker " (Rower) Ucker

Marjorie Y. Ucker (Rower) was born to Robert P. and Mary I. (Ours) Rower, Sr. on December 6, 1937 in Pontiac, Michigan. The family moved to Sugar Grove, Ohio where she attended Berne Union High School, graduating Salutatorian in 1955. After graduation she worked as a checkout clerk in various Lancaster-area grocery stores. In 1959 she married James N. Ucker of Logan, Ohio, giving birth to their son, Gregory in 1960. In 1968 she took a position at the Western Electric manufacturing plant in Columbus. In 1979 she transferred to Colorado, continuing with the company for 34 years in various capacities through transitions from AT&T, to Lucent, finally retiring from Avaya in 2002. She moved to Longmont, Colorado in 1983. Always with a passion for learning, she attended the Community College of Denver, receiving an Associates degree in Applied Science / Electronic Technology and obtaining her FCC license in 1988.

She loved to travel, ski, camp, and backpack and did so until her health would no longer permit. Her travels took her to all but 2 states in the US and much of Canada including a road trip to Alaska up the Alcan Highway. After retirement she scratched a life-long itch by taking a 6-week solo trip around Australia. She was a generous and loving sister, devoted mother, and adoring grandmother, sharing a particularly special bond with her granddaughter Morgan. As was typical of her demeanor, she was totally incapable of turning away a stray or hungry animal from her door including cats, squirrels, birds and even the occasional family of raccoons.

On the morning of December 24, after several months of declining health, she passed peacefully in her Longmont home. She was preceded in death by her mother, father; and sister, Mary Joan.

She is survived by her sister, Virginia Maxfield of Woodland Park, CO; brother, Robert Rower, Jr. of Carroll OH; and her son, Gregory Ucker, her daughter-in-law, Julia Herz and their children, Morgan and Cooper of Lyons, Colorado.

A celebration of her life and visitation is planned for Thursday, December 30, 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Howe Mortuary in Longmont.

A graveside service will take place at 2:00 PM Monday at Stukey Cemetery, Sugar Grove. Friends may visit Monday from 12:00 to 1:30 PM at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Lancaster.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties.
