Marilyn Cullen Lewis, 89 of Lancaster, OH passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 24, 2016. She was born in New Lexington, OH on January 22, 1927; she was the second child of Rodney and Julia Ward Cullen and the younger sister of Patricia. Marilyn graduated from St. Aloysius Academy, New Lexington, OH and studied Art and Design at St. Mary of the Springs (Ohio Dominican), Columbus, OH.
In 1947, Marilyn married Robert H. Lewis from Oak park, IL. They spent 8 years in his hometown of Chicago before relocating to Lancaster, OH. They were married for 32 years before his passing in 1979. Marilyn was a teacher’s aide and playground proctor for 15 years at St. Mary School in Lancaster. It was a role she thoroughly enjoyed with staff and students.
Marilyn was a talented storyteller and loved all things Perry County. She particular enjoyed telling stories about growing up in New Lexington. She was a stylish dresser who fancied her “Sunday Hats”. She loved to sing and dance and will be remembered for her contagious smile and laughter. Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and to all that knew her, a wonderful friend. Marilyn will be missed by her children, Michael (Christine Collins) Lewis of Lancaster, OH, Robert Lewis, Jr. of Lancaster, OH, John Ward (Michelle) Lewis of Pacific Palisades, CA, Daniel (Mary Pat) Lewis of Villa Hills, KY and Nancy (Milt) Taylor of Lancaster, OH; grandchildren, Aaron Lenz, Matthew Lenz, Matthew Baughman, Marilyn Nicole Cork, Cullen Lewis, Delaney Lewis, Milton Taylor, III, and Julia Taylor; five great-grandchildren and soon-to-be-born, a six great-grandchild and a sister, Patricia Schlass Wilson of Columbus, OH.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, and daughter, Caryn Lewis, who passed in 2015.
A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Assumption Catholic Church, Lancaster, OH with Rev. Fr. Craig R. Eilerman as Celebrant. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the mass at the church. A private burial will take place at New Lexington Cemetery, New Lexington, OH. Caring Cremation® has taken place by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, LANCASTER, OHIO.
