Mabel "Smokey" I. Staney

Mabel I. “Smokey” Staney, 90 a lifelong resident of Lancaster, Ohio passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at her home.

Smokey was born on April 13, 1929 in Lancaster to the late Roy Edward and Edna Kathryn Lydia (Walters) Suiter.  She was a Lancaster High School graduate Class of 1947.  She had been an employee of R.B.M. and Irving Drew Shoe Co. before she married Philip Staney, Jr. on February 1, 1951.  They were married for 61 years before the passing of Philip in September of 2012.  They both were avid fun seekers, enjoying motorcycle riding, hiking, swimming, dancing, hunting for morels and most especially golf.   They had plenty of fun, friends and family.  She was a member of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Smokey will be especially missed by her son Paul (Joni) Staney of Sam Valley, OR; grandchildren, Halley (Jason) Slaughter, Nathan Staney and Kyle Staney; great grandchildren, Jonah and Griffen Slaughter; sister, Dorothy Imler Riemh of Lancaster, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip, great grandson, Lukas Jamison Staney, and sister, Marjorie Francisco.

Caring Cremation® is being handled by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130. CORRECTION: A memorial service will be held Friday, April 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. John Davidson officiating. Friends may visit 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
