M. Joan Secrist

M. Joan Secrist, age 86, of Lancaster, formerly of Bellefontaine, died August 21st, 2014 at the Pickering House. She was born to the late, Reverend T.P. and Anne (Bohlender) Laughner, on February 7th, 1928 in Terre Haute, IN. She was a 1946 graduate of Leetonia High School; she graduated from Wittenberg University in 1950; she obtained an additional undergraduate degree from Wright State University where she also obtained her Masters Degree. She was a first grade teacher for 26 years at Northeastern Elementary School in Bellefontaine. Joan was active in the Lutheran Church Women, Athenian Club, Retired Teachers Association and bell choir for many years.
Joan is survived by her sons, Tom Secrist of West Liberty and Mark (Maureen Colopy) Secrist of Middleton, WI; daughters, Barbara (Tom) Tobin of Charlotte, N. C. and Ginni (Reverend Roger) Quay of Lancaster; grandchildren, David Tobin, Claire (Ken) Ingalls, Brian (Corrin) Secrist, Beth Secrist, Nathan Quay, and Seth Quay; sisters, Betty (John Olson) Schaffer and Annabelle (Richard) Sitler; and several nieces and nephews.
A service for the Resurrection of M. Joan Secrist, will take place on Monday, at 11AM, officiated by Rev. Diana Gugel, at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 1920 W Fair Ave. Lancaster, OH 43130. Caring Cremation® will take place following the service. Family and friends may visit at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME on Sunday, from 4PM until 6PM and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials can be made in her name to either FairHoPe Hospice, 282 Sells Rd. Lancaster, OH 43130; First Lutheran Church, 208 W Sandusky Rd., Bellefontaine, OH 43311; or a memorial of choice.
