Lowel Bigham

March 11, 1922 — April 11, 2015

Lowell V. Bigham, 93, of Rushville, died peaceably at his home on Saturday, April 11th 2015.

He was born on March 11, 1922, in Fairfield County to the late Alva and Clara Bigham of Rushville.

Lowell's love of life can best be summed up as a dedicated and hard working husband and father who enjoyed the life of farming. He had great love for his dairy herd which won numerous awards for maximum milk production throughout the years.
He was a decorated WWII veteran where he served under General George Patton in the 2nd Armored Division of Hell on Wheels as an Infantryman. His battles and campaigns included the Battle of the Bulge, Sicily, the Rhineland, Ardennes of Central Europe, and Northern Africa. He received the Bronze Star for Bravery, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the WWII Victory Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was also a Member of the Rushville United Methodist Church in Rushville, Baltimore VFW #3761, and the Rushville Senior Citizens.

During his retirement years, Lowell found great enjoyment in his grandchildren and great grandchildren as they enjoyed frolicking in the swimming pool he himself built some 54 years ago.
His love and dedication to family and friends is an endearing quality that all who knew him will never forget.

Lowell is survived by two sons, Philip (Bonnie) Bigham of Pleasantville, Richard (Pam) Bigham of Lancaster; daughter Bonnie (Tim) Hannum of Westerville; four grandchildren, Nathan (Ericka) Bigham, Heidi (Eddie) Henderly, Brandon (Natasha) Hannum, and Brittany Hannum; six great grandchildren, Taylor, Cassady, Carson, Garrett, Kelly, and Eddie; and sister-in-law, Emily Hyde.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years and our dear mother, Dorothy.
