Larry Ivan Rupe, 83 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at the Pickering House surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 23, 1941 in Ottumwa, Iowa to the late Theron and Valeta Rupe. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the US Air Force.
Larry worked for Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation and later retired as Fairfield County maintenance supervisor.
Larry was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #11, Amvets 1985, K of C Golf League, Olivedale Senior Citizens Center, a long time Lancaster Festival volunteer and Poker Club. He was a hard hitting tight end for the Swampscott Massachusetts Big Blue.
He was a devoted husband, father and great grandfather. Larry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret “Peg” Rupe; daughter, Penni (Kelly Norris) DeFazio of Lancaster; son, Timothy Rupe of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Jessica McCoy, Kessler McCoy, Brittany McCoy, Ivan Rupe, Avry Rupe, Paula Grace Kammerdiener and Noah Rupe; great grandchildren, Kylee Holbrook, Kaden England, Mason Black, Colton Black, Riley Black, Jace Black, Cooper McCoy and Joel Kammerdiener; brother, Jack Rupe of Naples, Florida and Joel Rupe of Pauley’s Island, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Butch Tiedtke of Pleasantville and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, Lloyd Thayer Rupe, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Irma Tiedtke and sister-in-law, Pat Rupe.
Caring Cremation® has taken place by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, LANCASTER, OHIO. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 25, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Raddatz officiating. Friends may visit 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Inurnment will follow in Forest Rose Cemetery with the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail conducting military rites at the cemetery.
