Larry L. Gatrell, Sr. 88 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Fairfield Medical Center with his wife by his side.
He was a Korean Conflict veteran serving in the US Army. Larry was a retired shop class teacher for the Lancaster City School District with 31 years of service.
He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church on George Road, Habitat for Humanities, and a graduate of the Newark high School class of 1948. He was on the Newark football team that went undefeated. He will be inducted into the High School Hall of Fame this winter for football. He was also a graduate of Ohio University.
Larry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jane; missed by his three sons, Skip (Joy) Gatrell, Doug Gatrell and Thomas Gatrell; grandchildren, Demi Gatrell and Dustin Gatrell; sister, Joan (Bob) Post, sister-in-law, Sally Brigham and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Elsie Gatrell and brother, Marvin Gatrell.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 1596 George Rd. NE, Lancaster, Ohio 43130 with Rev. Todd Noland officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Arrangements are being handled by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, LANCASTER, OHIO.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, c/o 2560 Dell Dr., Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
