Keith A. Smithfield, 68, well known local broadcaster and sports director of more than 30 years, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Fairfield Medical Center with family and friends at his side.
He was a 1965 graduate of Lancaster High School and a Varsity “O” Alumni of the Ohio State University. He broadcasted Lancaster, Fisher, and County football, basketball, and baseball games. He was a friend to many coaches and athletic directors in the area. And he was known throughout the area and state as the voice of the Lancaster Golden Gales and the Fisher Catholic Irish sports teams. He would give support to any one who asked for help in broadcasting information to the area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Betty Smithfield.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Laurie; daughter, Karie L. (Jeff) Stone; son, Keith A. Smithfield II; two grandchildren, Dalton Stone and Carson Stone; sister-in-law, Marilynne Kladder and her husband, Tom. He also leaves many friends, cousins, and his special friend, his dog Sophie.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 163 E. Wheeling St, Lancaster, with Reverend Dr. Brian Jones officiating. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2 to 3 PM in the church parlor. Caring Cremation has taken place and burial will take place at a later date in Forest Rose Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lancaster High School Athletic Department.
