Joseph Anthony Sarsfield, 92, of Carroll, OH, has left this world to be with his Heavenly Father. Joseph was born on 10/05/29 in Fairmont, West Virginia to parents Thomas and Helen Sarsfield. His younger years were spent working on the family farm alongside his father and brothers. Joe proudly served his country in the Air Force while aiding democracy during the Berlin Airlift. After his military service, he attended Fairmont State College, where he earned his degree in Education. During college he frequently visited the local ice cream shop until he won the heart of the cute little “soda jerk” Joanne. He married Joanne, finished college and the two of them set out for a new adventure and moved to Columbus, Ohio. He spent the next 36 years teaching in the Columbus Public School System. He spent his summers coaching and enjoying his second job of “neighborhood dad” to his son's buddies and many other children. He touched so many lives as a husband, dad, uncle and teacher. He has left his mark of kindness on many souls during his lifetime. After his retirement he was able, along with Joanne, to provide daily love and care to their grandson Joseph. They excitedly took on the role of Papa and Nana. Joe spent his days as a play buddy for Joseph and it was common to see him dressed in a costume or sitting in a large box “canoe” in the backyard. He took this role to the next level with the aid of his inner child. His lessons of love and kindness will live on through his wife of 67 years, Joanne.
In addition to his wife Joanne, he is survived by his son, Thomas, daughter-in-law, Laurie, of Carroll, OH, grandson, Joseph and his fiancé Macie Petrich of New Albany, OH. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister Helen and brothers, Thomas and Paul. He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-laws, Connie (Bill) Belcastro, Teresa (Harold) Stone, Mary (Gerald) Circelli, Domenick (Ann) Spine, John (Virginia )Spine, Salvatore Spine, Nephew, John Stone and Niece, Suzanne Spine Luckey.
Joe's strong faith in God, his pride of the Irish, his amazing sense of humor, and his immense love of family will live on through all he has touched. He was a man among men and a role model for all. Thank you Lord, for sharing Joe with us. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
