Joseph "Joe" Lupo

Joseph Michael “Joe” Lupo, age 87, passed away on March 18th, 2018 at Fairfield Medical Center. The eldest of four sons, he was born to the late Joe and Mary (Resick) Lupo on January 11th, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri.

After his sweetheart moved with her family to Columbus, Joe followed suit to have her hand in marriage. A beloved husband and father, Joe dedicated most of his life to community service. He worked for Anderson Concrete Company for over 19 years as a dispatcher and owned One-hour Martinizing Cleaners for 10 years, before finally retiring from his position in hospital administration from Columbus Radiology, Mount Carmel East. He was both an avid golfer and bowler. As a volunteer, Joe fostered newborns for Children’s Services, fostered puppies for the Alum Creek Dog Shelter, was a greeter at COSI on Broad Street, participated for 15 years in Community Connection for the Chillicothe prison system, and was in several plays with the Little Theater Off Broadway of Grove City. After his retirement, he partnered with his son Greg to run Lupo Vending.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 62 years, Jo-Ann (Goodart) Lupo; son, Gregory Neil (Jennifer) Lupo; grandchildren, Kimberly Jo Lupo (MI), Joseph Paul Lupo (MN), and Nicolas James Lupo; brothers, Henry Lupo and Frank Lupo; nieces and nephew, Susan, Mark (Marlene), and Rachael.

He was preceded in death by his son, Maj. Vincent Craig Lupo and brother, Michael Lupo.

A Funeral service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 E Broad St, Columbus, OH 43213, at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 22nd. Family and friends may visit from 2-4 pm Wednesday at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N. Columbus St., Lancaster, OH 43130, and a half hour prior to the service Thursday.
