Joseph C. Doxey, Jr. 79 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Pickering House. He was born on June 28, 1938 to the late Joseph C. Doxey, Sr. and Mildred Ripley Doxey in Portsmouth, VA. He attended Craddock High School in Portsmouth, VA. At the age of 17, in July 1955, he enlisted in the US Navy and served on numerous carriers during 21 years of service as a jet mechanic.
After retiring he went to work for the U. S. Government at the Navy yards in Norfolk, VA in naval publications and printing. He retired that position in 1998. He was the caregiver for his mother until her death in September, 2002.
Joseph married Lois Stapleton King on September 1, 2004 on the beach at Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii. When they married, he gained an instant family consisting of David, Jean and Sarah Comer and Jerry Comer and David Lehnus. He was very proud of his family and loved them very much.
Joseph lost a 7 year battle with cancer on January 25, 2018. He fought long and hard during those years but didn’t let it stop him from traveling and making memories.
In addition to his wife and family, he leaves cousins and friends in the Ashtabula, Ohio area and Virginia and Lois’ three stepdaughters and their families.
He attended the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster and Olivedale Senior Citizens Center.
Per his request, Caring Cremation® will take place by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERLA HOME AND CREMATORY, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with inurnment at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster, Ohio at a later date.
Family and Friends may visit in the parlor of the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Rev. Brian Jones and Rev. Cheryl Foulk officiating.
The family requests memorial gifts be made to The Creative Ministry or Music Ministry of the First United Methodist Church, 163 E. Wheeling St. Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
The family wants to thank all the many caregivers, doctors, nurses and friends that have helped Joe and the family during these many years. He was always very thankful for all the care he received at Fairfield Medical Center and FairHoPe Hospice and for his special family at Sherman Bluff Condos.
