Johnny Schoffner

March 2, 1925 — August 23, 2013

Homer H. “Johnny” Schoffner, age 88, of Baltimore, Ohio passed away on Friday, August 23, 2013.

He was a WWII Navy Veteran, spending 3 1/2 years as a Fire Controlman living aboard the USS Mississippi in the Pacific. He graduated from Liberty Union High School in Baltimore and Franklin University in Columbus.

He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ all of his life and a 70 year member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3761 in Baltimore, where he served as Post Commander in 1954. He retired from Rockwell International in Columbus with 30 years as an electronics inspector. After retirement Donna and he lived in Ft. Myers, Florida for six months and Baltimore for six months.

Johnny was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters; and survived by one sister, Verna Messerly of Baltimore..

Johnny is also survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna (Nisley) Schoffner and their two children; son, Mitchell P. (Peggy) Schoffner of Pataskala, Ohio and daughter, Cecelia B. (Robert) Smeck of Lancaster, Ohio; grandchildren, Megan (Jacob) Schoffner Yaraschuk and Fred Schoffner all of Pataskala; and great granddaughter, Addison Yaraschuk.

Funeral service for Johnny will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 105 N. High St, Baltimore, Ohio 43105 with Reverend Jill Dunlap officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg with Military Burial Honors provided by the Baltimore Veterans Burial Detail . Family and friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home, Baltimore.

Contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ in memory of Johnny. Our thanks for the friendship, love, and support of family and dear friends from our many years at Indian Creek Park in Ft. Myers Beach and in the Baltimore area.
