John Tufts

John Jerome Tufts of Rushville received his heavenly wings when he was called home by his Lord February 24th, 2018. John was born to the late Charles Hayden Tufts and Catherine Altherr Tufts on May 16th, 1933, he was 84 years old.

John married Ruby Faye Osborn August 29th, 1950. They were married for 67 years.

John was a past commander and life member of Thornport AMVETS Post 51. He was also a member of the Lockbourne Masonic Lodge 232 F & AM, Somerset American Legion Post 58 and Somerset 40 & 8. He was a member of the Rushville Church of Christ and Christian Union. He was also the former owner of the J&R Grille in New Salem. He worked at F.W. Sloter Concrete for 30 years and retired from Anderson Concrete in 1995.

John proudly served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

John is survived by his wife, Ruby, daughter Peggy (Mike) Terry Rushville, son Stan Tufts, Somerset, grandchildren: Mike Terry and Michelle (Richard) Peters all of Rushville, Tera (Ron) Bradford of Kettering, Gena Celli and Jeffery (Jet) Tufts all of Laguna Hills, California.

Nicole (Michael) Walker of Somerset, Kurtis Tufts of Lancaster, Ashley (Cody) Laughlin of Rushville. Great-grandchildren: Phillip John Tufts, Chloe Thuler, Camden Peters, Luke Tufts, Kane Celli, Chelsa and Donna Glenn, and Easton and Finley Walker. Siblings: Pete (Carol) Tufts of Sugar Grove, Joan (Dave) Erb of Reese, Sue Crumley of Ashville, Chuck Tufts of Circleville, Brent (Patty)Tufts of Reynoldsburg, Ruth Thompson of Reese, and cousin and dear friend Clyde Delong of Massachusetts.

John is preceded in death by his parents and son Phillip Jerome Tufts, daughter in law Janie Tufts, siblings: Faith Dick, Tim Tufts, Beatrice Bethel, brother in law Lewis Bethel, Brad Tufts, Norma Hamilton and brother in law Frank Hamilton.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 207 S. MAIN ST., BALTIMORE, OHIO 43105 with Pastor Melvin Truex officiating. Burial will follow in West Rushville Cemetery with the Thornport AMVETS Post 51 conducting military rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
