John W. Starkey, 81, of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Fairfield Medical Center. He was a Korean Conflict veteran serving in the US Air Force and a retired truck driver for Roadway Express with 27 years of service.
He was a graduate of Albany High School Class of 1952, life member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 955, member of the Loyal Order of Moose #2434, earned the LOOM Pilgrim Degree of Merit, Past Master of Madison Masonic Lodge #221 F & AM of W. Jefferson, Ohio, 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and Aladdin Temple Shrine. He was a board member of the Ohio State Moose Association as Government Relations Chairman, Ohio State Veteran and Fraternal Association, AMVETS, and several offices in Local Teamsters Union #413.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia Starkey; sons, Charles (Kelly) Cochran of Lancaster, Ohio, Michael A. (Jody) Starkey of North Pole, Alaska and John P. “Pug” (Lynn) Starkey of Indiana; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Janelle, Chelsia, Monica, Christopher, Mindi, Josh, and J.T.; six great-grandchildren, sisters, Jeanie Brookhart of Albany, Ohio, Garnet (Leland) Moore of Massillon, Ohio, and Joan Nelson of Albany, Ohio; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Bobo Starkey.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL AND CREMATORY, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with Pastor Brian Harkness officiating followed by the Masonic service and Moose service. Caring Cremation® to follow the service. Friends may visit 4-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
