John J. Owens

John J. Owens, 80, of Carroll, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024. He was born to the late Thomas and Georgia Owens on September 29, 1943 in Pleasant County, WV.

John had a great zest for life. He loved to play pranks and was quite the jokester. Holiday parties and Christmas cards were very special to him. He was a member of the Teamsters #284 and of the N.R.A. John also enjoyed fishing, hunting, squirrel and bird watching, vacationing to the mountains of Petersburg, WV, and above all, spending time with his grand children and great grand children.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice Owens; children, Kemberly (Scott) Hessler, Sherry (Fred) Hammond, and Teresa (Michael) Francis; grandchildren, Jesse Hammond, Johnathan (Savanna) Owens, Brooke (Austin) Howell, and Zachary Hammond; great grandchildren, Abel Hammon, Evelynn Hammond, Sophia Owens, and Athena Owens; siblings, Deloris (Jim) Flippi, Bobby (Becky) Owens; Laurie Clemons, Lola (Rick) Marks, Thomas (Brenda) Owens, Gary Owens, Larry Owens, and Ted (Susan) Owens; several nieces and nephews; and pet squirrel, Rusty.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Bill Owens, Gerald L. Owens, Mary Owens, Gloria Horner, Terry Owens, and Tommy Dean Ownes; and parents. 

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 11 AM at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N Columbus St., Lancaster, OH 43130. Burial will follow in Carroll Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 4-7 PM at the funeral home on Wednesday.
