John Mathias

John Mathias 83 of Baltimore, Ohio passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015 at his residence. He was a Korean Conflict veteran serving in the US Navy and a retired carpenter.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, life member of the Baltimore VFW Post 3761 receiving his 60 year pin, Carpenter Union Local 200 receiving his 40 year pin, and Olivedale Senior Citizens Center.
John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Mathias; daughters, Vallie (Don) Prorok of Baltimore, OH and Tonda (Scott) Sims of Decatur, AL; grandchildren, Stacie (James) Peck of Baltimore, OH, Bart (Janice) Sims of Hartselle, AL, Nicole (Nick) Jewell of Baltimore, OH, and Bryan (Shannon) Prorok of Pickerington, OH; great-grandchildren, Isabelle Peck, Luke, Julia and Olivia Sims, Tessa and Samantha Jewell; step-great-grandchildren, Madison and Anna Peck; sister, Donna Jean Webb of Thurston, OH; brothers, Ronald Mathias of Spring Grove, IL, Jimmie and Mary Mathias of Baltimore, OH, and Paul (Sharon) Mathias of Cambridge, OH; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jeff and Pam Whittington of Davenport, FL, Eric and Karyl Whittington of Baltimore, OH; special friends, Carla and Mike Clifford; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and May Kane Mathias, half-brother, Donald Mathias, brothers, Harold, Loren, Richard, and Dale Mathias, sisters, Mable Durant, Virginia Landis and Helen Landis.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. in the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 207 S. MAIN ST., BALTIMORE, OHIO 43105 with Rev. Dr. Carl Wiley and Rev. Dr. Alice Wolfe officiating. Burial to follow in Union Evangelical Cemetery with the Baltimore VFW Post 3761 conducting military rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
