John E. Gene Mathias, age 82, of Noblesville, IN, formerly of Lancaster, died at his residence on June 14th, 2015. He was born in Nelsonville, on Jan. 5th, 1933 to the late John W. and Mary C. Landerfelt Mathias. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired after 26 1/2 years from Western and Southern Life Insurance Company and then served at World Gospel Mission in Marion, IN. He was a former member of Faith Memorial Church and currently a member of Fall Creek Wesleyan Church in Fishers, IN. Gene was the pianist and a vocalist of the Mathias Trio, along with his brothers Paul, Joe and later, his friend, Don Burnside.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Bette J. Love Mathias; children, Rev. John (Ginger) Mathias of Flint, MI, Sandra (Dr. Daniel) Poff of Noblesville, IN, Pamela (Rev. Dr. Dan) Schafer of Indianapolis, IN, and Rev. Duane (Charma) Mathias of Lancaster, KY; grandchildren, Heather (Trent) Tinker, Jon Michael Mathias, Corinne (Jonathan) Long, Benjamin (Amanda) Poff, Kevin (Kandy) Schafer, Julie (Rev. Jonathan) Crandall, Dr. Bethany (Steven) Enoch, Kelsey (Paula) Mathias; sixteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Paul (Kate) Mathias, Joseph (Twila) Mathias, Rev. James (Donna) Mathias, Edgar Mathias, Mary (Richard) Chevalier, Shirley (Don) Starner, Ellen (Paul) Cook, and Larry (Cindy) Mathias; special aunt, Eileen Patterson; and many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Thomas Mathias.
There will be a visitation in Indiana for friends of the family on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the Fall Creek Weslyan Church, Fishers, Indiana. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, at 11AM at the Faith Memorial Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Thomas H. Hermiz, burial will follow the service at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may call on Friday, from 4PM until 8PM at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME in Lancaster, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
