John R. Copeland 65, of Lancaster, Ohio passed away peacefully after a long battle with lung cancer, at the Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio on Saturday, May 26, 2012.
John was an US Air Force Vietnam veteran with 27 years of service and retired from the Department of Defense in Columbus, Ohio. He was a member of the NSRA, GoodGuys, American Legion Post 11 and Vietnam Post 11. He also was a representative for the lung cancer support group in Columbus, Ohio. He filled his time with his street rod, drag racing, woodworking and golfing.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cheri Holleran Copeland; sons, John Scott (Shannon) and Michael Ryan; brothers, Jim Copeland (Jody) of Bradford, PA and Scott McAfee (Katherine) of Austin, TX; mother and father (In-laws) of Bradford, PA and three precious grandchildren, Emma, Noah and Christian Copeland and of course his constant companions, Max and Annie who were by his side always; sister-in-law, Carol (Tom) Thomas, brother-in-law Jim Holleran (Donna) and several loved nephews and niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Copeland and Tat Copeland McAfee and nephew, Andy Thomas.
Caring Cremation has taken place per his request at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130. Burial and a private service will take place at a later date in Bradford, PA.
Memorial gifts may be given to the American Cancer Society, Central Region-FAIR, 870 Michigan Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43215 or the Pickering House, 282 Sells Rd., Lancaster, Ohio 43130 in his memory.
