John Edward Bauer 86 of Sugar Grove, Ohio, went to be with his beloved wife, JoAnne on Thursday, February 20, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 15, 1938 to the late Clarence E. and Marie A. Bauer.
John was a graduate of Berne Union High School Class of 1956 and then served in the US Army where he played the trumpet for the US Army Band. John was a retired engineer for Columbia Gas with over 30 years of service and also a longtime Sugar Grove, Ohio farmer.
He was very active member in the Trinity Sponagle Lutheran Church. John was a member of the Cattlemen’s Association, 4-H Advisor and supporter of the 4-H program through the Fairfield County Fair along with being a former member of the Farm Bureau.
John is survived by his daughter, Molly (Greg) Dennis; son, Mike (Pamela) Bauer all of Sugar Grove; grandchildren, Cody (Nicole), Chelsey (Kyle), John D. (Morgan Ball), Carson, Brandon (Tay) Jacob and Isaac (Steph); six great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, and brother-in-law, Nellalou Bauer and Tom and Linda Speaks along with several nephews and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, JoAnne Bauer, parents and a brother, Donald E. Bauer.
Funeral will be Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Sponagle Lutheran Church with Rev. Richard Sovitsky IV officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Sponagle Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Frank e. Smith funeral Home, 405b N. Columbus St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
Memorial gifts may be given to the Trinity Sponagle Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, 7120 Sponagle Rd. SE, Sugar Grove, Ohio 43155.
