John Balthaser

d. November 21, 2020

John David Balthaser passed away on Saturday, November 21 in Heath, Ohio due to complications of Covid-19.  He was born January 15, 1955 in Lancaster.

John is survived by his sister, Rebecca Balthaser McBride (David) of Campbell, CA; three nieces, Kathleen of San Jose, CA, Amanda of San Francisco, CA, and Maria of Campbell, and several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, David V. and Bertha Sexauer Balthaser who were both lifelong residents of Lancaster.

John attended Forest Rose School and worked at Fairfield Industries and LICCO in Newark.  Most recently, he was a resident at the Laurels of Heath Nursing Center.  He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where he loved to greet everyone.

John had an incredible memory and never met a stranger.  He was fascinated with the U.S. Presidents and knew many details about each one.  He also remembered the names and birthdays of almost everyone he met. He cherished his time as a Boy Scout and was skilled at putting puzzles together.  His favorite era was the ‘60’s and ‘70’s and you could find him regularly playing his favorite record albums and dancing to the music from that time.  He also loved his dogs and would take them on multiple walks per day around his block.

John was always thoughtful, caring and polite to those around him.  Even though he was disabled, he had such a positive spirit and brought joy to all who knew him.

Due to Covid restrictions, a memorial service will be held at a later time.  Burial has taken place through the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home at Maple Grove Cemetery.    Contributions in John’s name can be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or the Special Olympics.  Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
