Joe Mathias, Jr.

Joseph Mathias Jr. 58 years old, passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends.

Joseph was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend whose heart was always open to anyone in need. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life — casting a line while fishing, the freedom of the open road on his Harley Davidson, and the thrill of drag racing. His greatest joy, however, was putting others before himself. Joseph’s selfless nature and willingness to lend a helping hand touched countless lives.

He carried the weight of the world on his shoulders so others didn’t have to, never asking for anything in return. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back without hesitation. Though his absence leaves an emptiness that can never be filled, those who knew him find comfort in knowing he has finally found the peace he longed for.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife Elaine Mathias, son Joey Mathias (Lakota Bartow), daughter Mallory (William) Garced, sisters Karen (Mike) Phillips and Tina (Ralph) Glover, and many cherished grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his brother Don Mathias and his parents Joe and Theda Mathias.

Joseph’s legacy of love, kindness, and sacrifice will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

He is now at rest, riding free and watching over those he loved most — a guardian angel to all who were blessed to know him.

Family and friends may visit Monday, March 10, 2025 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, 405 N. Columbus St. Lancaster, OH 43130. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
