Joan C. (Kinser) Phillips, age 83, of Thornville, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 21, 1934 in Lancaster to the late Clifford and Frances (Branum) Kinser.
Joan was an Honors graduate of Thurston High School, class of 1953; a 1954 graduate of the Naval Hospital Corps in Nursing, Bainbridge, MD. She was a veteran of the US Naval Hospital in Annapolis, MD. She worked as a midwife, then in Dr. Gressler’s office in Newark. After raising her children, she worked in home health in Lancaster, before her retirement. She was an avid reader, loved cleaning, watching movies, her Bible, and was a great cook. She loved her family selflessly.
Joan is survived by her children, Ellen (Jeffrey) Bieber, of Thornville, Mary Zeigler and Anthony Phillips, both of Galion; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Kinser, of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Phillips; children, Donald Phillips Jr., Robert E. Phillips, and Scott A. Phillips; grandson, Shawn D. Phillips; and brother, Robert Kinser.
A funeral service will take place at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N. Columbus St., Lancaster, OH, 43130. Friends and family may visit from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service on Tuesday.
