Jo Ann Benner

Jo Ann C. Benner, 79, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014.

Jo Ann was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She worked many years as secretary for the Lancaster Cemetery Department. She was also a member of the Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority. Jo Ann enjoyed traveling, she loved to read, and she loved her grandchildren.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband, Dick Benner; daughter, Gayle (James) McGrath of Lexington, Kentucky; son, Dennis (Stacey) Benner of Heath, Ohio; grandchildren, Emily McGrath, Benjamin McGrath, Elizabeth McGrath, Madison Benner, and Cole Benner; and aunt, Ruth Madgwick of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Mildred Carlisle.

Funeral service for Jo Ann will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 105 E. Mulberry St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130 with Reverend Dr. Emil Klatt III officiating. Graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday at Wilson Cemetery, 4254 Marion Rd. NE, Newark, Ohio 43055. Family and friends may visit from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Lancaster and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Donations can be made in memory of Jo Ann to the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, 105 E. Mulberry St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
