Jimmy R. Peck, Sr., 71 of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Cleveland Clinic.
Jim was born Wednesday, February 28, 1940, in Chillicothe and was a graduate of Chillicothe High School. Jim served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. After his military service he started his career in law enforcement, which included; city policeman, liquor agent, special investigator for the State of Ohio, ran for office of Sheriff of Fairfield County in 1980 and served 3 distinguished terms as Sheriff before retiring in 1992. He also served as the President of the Buckeye State Sheriffs Association. Jim began a second career in the field of Corrections and in 1997, he and his wife opened the Community Transition Center, a community corrections rehabilitation facility in Lancaster, which has helped prepare many individuals to re-enter society as constructive citizens.
Jim was a member of Faith Memorial Church, the Fraternal Order of Police, and a lifetime member of the Buckeye State Sheriffs Association.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Jill; children, Jimmy Peck and his wife Monya, Jamie Peck, Joshua Peck, Lori (Joey) Rice, and Amy (Bryan) Oxentine; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; brother and sister-in-law, John and Mary Lee Peck; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Mike Hunter.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Jerry David Peck; daughter, Lisa Pogue; and 2 grandchildren.
Jim was a special person who accomplished much in his lifetime and was a devoted husband and father to his family. We are eternally thankful to have been privileged to spend our lives with him and will look forward to seeing him again in the next life. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and told everyone who would listen about His mercy.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Thursday at Faith Memorial Church, 2610 W Fair Ave, Lancaster, with Pastor Jonathan Morgan officiating. Burial to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster with Military Honors performed by the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N Columbus St, Lancaster with Fraternal Order of Police services conducted at 7:00 pm.
