Jim J. Messenger, 83, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2013.

Jim was a Marine Corps Veteran serving during the Korean War. He attended Avalon United Brethren Church in Bremen. Jim enjoyed movies, eating things he wasn’t supposed to, and telling a great story or joke. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce Messenger; children, Robbyn (Steve) Holt, Tamara Boyer, and Scott (Theresa) Robinette; grandchildren, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Nick, Matthew, and Ashley; great grandchildren, Emma, Addison, and Colin; sister, Cathy Short; and father-in-law, John Bailey.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Irma Messenger; and mother-in-law, Henrietta Bailey.

Funeral service for Jim will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Lancaster with Reverend Charles Wheatley officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster with the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail performing Veteran burial honors. Family and friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
