Jean Thompson Spung, age 94 of Lancaster, died May 5th, 2016 at Main St. Terrace Nursing Facility. She was born on March 29th, 1922 to the late, Donald and Bessie Ebert Thompson in Hocking County. She was valedictorian of her class at the Laurelville High School. She was a member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, was a social society columnist for local newspapers, the first full time director at Olivedale, and was inducted into the senior citizen’s hall of fame. Jean was a member of Red Glad Hatters of Olivedale and she treasured this great group of friends. Jean enjoyed life and socializing, whether it was around a group quilting or writing about grand events. Jean will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara J. (Dennis L) Lewis; grandchildren, Travis G. Lewis, Ben E. (Anna) Lewis, and Ryan A. (Kristen) Lewis; five great grandchildren, Ryan Jr., Caleb, Chance, Madison, and Brittany; step-grandchildren, Zack and Brent; sisters, Betty Sakas of Baltimore, and Arla Lines of Lancaster; brother, Jack Thompson of Lauralville; sister-in-law, Jackie Snelling of FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Gale R. Spung; parents; brothers, Charles, George, Robert, John Thompson and an infant brother; and sisters, Bernice Woodward, Sara Disbennett, Alice Jones, Helen Ruth Burns, and Edith Shonk.
A funeral service will take place on Friday May 13th, at 1:30PM at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. Family and friends may call on Thursday at the FRANK E. SMITH Funeral Home from 2 Until 4PM and 6 until 8 PM. Burial will follow the service at Stuckey Cemetery in Sugar Grove.
