Biography

Jean E. Kern, 91, Lancaster, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Stimmell’s Elderly Care in Lancaster.

Jean was a member of Sixth Avenue United Methodist Church. Jean was a retired secretary for Lancaster City Schools and a member of the Lancaster Retired Secretary’s Association.

Jean is survived by her sons, Keith (Sondra) Kern of Lancaster and Rex (Nancy) Kern of Camarillo, CA; grandchildren, Scott (Barbara) Kern, John Ryan (Heather) Kern, Timothy (Holly) Kern, Kellie Kern and Michael (Amy) Kern; 11 great grandchildren; brother, John (Judy) Ritchie of Amanda; and sister, Norma (Orangie) Gobel Gray of Newark.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Trenton E. Kern on March 15, 2012; parents, Edgar and Leona Ritchie; brother, Donald Ritchie; sister, Marjorie Fosnaugh; and step-mother, Glenna Ritchie.

Funeral service for Jean will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Lancaster with Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Lancaster. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
