Devoted mother and wife, Janet Howard Ballengee, age 76, of Baltimore, Ohio passed away on February 2nd, 2013. She was born to Pauline and Orton Howard on February 9th, 1936 in Sevierville, TN. As a young women she worked as a switchboard operator at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory before attending the University of Tennessee. At U.T. she met her future husband Dr. Stuart Francis Ballengee and they were married for 51 years. Later as a flight attendant for Braniff International Airlines, she had the opportunity to travel abroad and enjoyed time in Paris, Venice, Rome, Vienna, Geneva, Rekovic, Cancun, Buenos Aires, San Juan and other cities abroad. She was a true Southern Belle, sophisticated, elegant and strong-willed. She loved travel, fine dining and most of all Christmas. As such she owned a Christmas store, Cottages In The Lane in Columbus for many years. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church, in Etna.
She is survived by her loving husband, Stuart; their son Brandon and daughter in law Aurore Ballengee of NYC; her grandson, Victor Ballengee; her sisters, Jennifer Moore, Jane Hunter, Joyce (Jimmy) Marsh, Jewel (Bobby) Richards and Joan (Charles) Smith; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline Sutton and Orton Howard.
A graveside service will take place on Wednesday February 6th, 2PM, at Basil Memorial Cemetery in Baltimore, OH. Services have been arranged through the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
