James A. Underwood

James A. Underwood, of Baltimore, passed away after a brief illness at the age of 82, on April 11, 2021. He was born to the late Neal and Mary Underwood on September 19, 1938.

James served his country for 20 years as a member of the United States Air Force. He also held positions at Rockwell International, and Quadra Tech Inc. until his retirement. He was a member of the Thurston United Methodist Church, and enjoyed spending time at the Rockbridge Flea Market with his friends.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marilyn (Schaffner) Underwood; sons, Jon (Tammy) Underwood, Alan (Sandy) Underwood, and Jerry (Joan) Underwood; grandchildren, Beth, Morgan, Mark, Greg, Dylan and Kaylee Underwood; great grandchildren, Charlii and Boone; sister, Trudy Thomas; brother-in-law, Rick (Cheri) Schaffner; and sister-in-law, Debbie Schaffner.

James is preceded in death by his siblings, Kenneth Underwood, Dorothy Shelton, Maribelle Powers, Joan Huard, and Neal E. Underwood; infant sister, Judy; and parents.

A funeral service officiated by Rev. Clara Kwon will take place at 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 207 S. Main St., Baltimore, OH, 43105. Burial will follow the service in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Family and friends may visit from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the funeral home on Wednesday.
