James Larry Shover, 80, of Baltimore, Ohio, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio.
Larry was born on February 3, 1943 to James Boyd & Clarice “Ecie” Shover in Millersport, Ohio. After he graduated from Millersport High School in 1961, Larry courageously served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, were he received a purple heart for his bravery.
In 1969, Larry returned to Millersport where he proudly worked as a meat cutter at the IGA. Larry never met a stranger and loved riding his motorcycle, driving his Mustang convertible and going to the ocean every year. Larry will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer, and his children, Jeremy and Kathy Shover, Kathy who was like a daughter to him of Baltimore and Olivea Heather Renee (Andrew Mayoka) Oldham of Columbus; he was also the proudest grandfather and best friend to his namesake, James Shover and grandfather to Fern Calhoun; sister-in-law and caregiver, Debbie (Jones) Hoffman of Baltimore, and nephews and nieces, Jeff and Lisa Hoffman, J.T. Hoffman, John-Paul and Kristen Hoffman, Steve Shover, Susan Ramsey, Sandy, Tom, Bob, and Jim Shover, Rocky Jackson, as well as great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a special “extra daughter” and life-long friend, Missy Music.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Cornejo, brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry (Betty) and Carl (Kay) Shover and brother-in-law, John Hoffman..
Funeral service will be held Friday, July 28, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. in the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 207 S. MAIN ST., BALTIMORE, OHIO 43105 with John-Paul Hoffman speaking. Burial will follow in Union Evangelical Cemetery with the Baltimore VFW Post 3761 conducting military rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit Friday from 11:30-1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
