James Mitchell

James R. Mitchell, age 91, of Lancaster, died on July 15, 2013, at his residence. He was born on June 14, 1922 in Fairfield County to his parents, Robert and Nellie Springer Mitchell. He worked for 30 years at Essex Wire, and was in the U.S. NAVY from Sept. 30, 1942 until Jan 24, 1947. He was a man who was great at fixing anything and will be greatly missed and loved by his family.

James is survived by his son, James Mitchell of Lancaster; daughter, Judy (Ronald) Gordon of Jackson; four grandchildren, Jodi Kinker, Jeff (MaryAnn) Gordon, Heather Mitchell, and Brandy (Zak) White; six great grand children, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Lou Mitchell; sons, Erik Scott Mitchell, and Kevin Mitchell; parents; sisters, Marie Smith, Genevieve Edwards; brothers, Robert, Howard, Paul, Charles, Tunney, and Richard Mitchell.

A service will take place at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME on Friday at 2PM, officiated by Rev. Richard S. Mitchell, burial will follow the service at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
