James Richard Heft

James Richard Heft 84 of Lancaster, Ohio died on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Bickford of Lancaster.

He was born on June 13, 1935, the son of the late Donald E. and Margaret L. (Moody) Heft.

Jim is survived by his two daughters, Debbie (Jim) Henderly and Jana (Joe) DiDomenico: four grandchildren who he loved and was proud of; Amy and Adam Henderly and Jarod and Jansen DiDomenico all of Lancaster, Ohio.  One sister Donna (Jerry) Cook.  Nephews Gary (Cindy) Cook and Greg (Sally) Cook.  Brothers-in-law Dean (Cheryl) Moore, Larry (Charlyn) Moore and sister-in-law Linda (Chuck) Mettler. Several nephews and nieces, cousins, friends and his church family.  Jim was preceded in death by his wife Wilda June (Moore) Heft who passed away on October 25, 2013.

Jim was a graduate of Lancaster High School, attended Wittenberg College and proudly served in the US Marine Corps.  He worked for 30 years for the local Post Office, retiring as Supervisor of Mail Carriers.  After retiring he worked for 20 years for Helen’s Flowers and was associated with Rich Troup Auctioneers.

Jim was a life time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church having served as Council Member, President of the Congregation and Special Funds Treasurer for over 20 years.

He was a charter member of the Lancaster Tarhe Lions Club with more than 20 years of perfect attendance. He served as Club Secretary for over 20 years and received the Melvin Jones Award for Lions Service.

Jim was a member of the Lancaster Men’s Chorus for many years and served as the Treasurer for 15 years.  He was a member of the Lancaster Masonic Lodge #57 F & AM.

Jim was a 35 year member of the Fairfield County Federal Employees Credit Union having served on the Board of Directors from 1970 to 2010.

He was an avid fan of the Lancaster High School football and basketball games for over 40 years.

A special thanks for the loving care given by Bickford of Lancaster where he resided, Dr. Scoggin for his care and compassion and especially Amanda at Bickford who was his special companion/friend/buddy.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Bill Rauch and Deacon Diane Alexander officiating. Burial to follow in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, Logan, Ohio.  Friends may visit from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130

In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 105 E. Mulberry St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
