James Robert "Bob" "James Robert" Claypool

James Robert “Bob” Claypool, age 89, passed away after a short illness on Saturday October 29, 2011. He was born on July 13, 1922 to the late Clark and Prudence (Jackson) Claypool. Bob will be missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruby (Abbott); children, Chris (Barbara) and Gwen (Mike) Shafer; grandchildren, Christina (Andrew) Deem, Michelle (Bart) Hampson, Matthew Claypool, Nathan (Rachel) Shafer, Martha Claypool; and 4 great grandchildren, Grant and Grace Hampson and Claire and Lauren Deem. He is also survived by brothers, Donald (Juanita) and Howard (Phyllis).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Schieser and great-grandson, Brandon Deem.

Bob founded Claypool Electric, Inc. in 1954 and spent over 45 years as president and general manager of the business. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was recently awarded the Jubilee of Liberty metal by the French government for his service during the Normandy invasion. Bob also served on the Bloom-Carroll Board of Education for many years, was a 4-H advisor, a charter member of Farm Bureau Council 33 and a lifelong member of Grace United Church of Christ.

A Christian burial service will take place Thursday, November 3 at Grace United Church of Christ at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ruth Farrell officiating. Internment shall follow at the Greenfield Township Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, November 2 at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home 2–4 and 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral service at the Church.
