James W. Carpenter, age 84 of Lancaster, died January 9th, 2017 at the Pickering House. He was born on February 3rd, 1933 to the late Floyd and Eva Carpenter, in Junction City. He served his country in the US Air Force and then retired from Diamond Power where he was a machinist. He is a member of Laurelville Church of God and also Olivedale. James enjoyed fiddling with outdated electronics, but loved spending time with his wife and family.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Hayes-Carpenter; son James D. (Therese) Carpenter; step children, Pastor Steve (Kathy) Hayes and Joe (Carolyn) Hayes; step daughter in law, Linda Hayes; one granddaughter and several step grandchildren; siblings, Ruth (Dick) Armstrong and Grant (Karen) Carpenter; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Beverly Sigler; first wife, Patricia Carpenter; siblings, Gladys Wright and Dwight Carpenter; and step-son, Carl Dwain Hayes.
A funeral service will take place at 10AM on Friday, Jan 12th, at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, officiated by his stepson, Pastor Steve Hayes. The Lancaster Veteran Burial Detail will conduct military rights at Floral Hills Cemetery following the service. Family and friends may visit on Thursday from 2PM until 4PM and 6PM until 8PM at the funeral home. Memorials can be made in James’s name to the Pickering House 282 Sells Rd, Lancaster, OH 43130.
