Jack Lee Bitler, 86, of Baltimore, passed away at his residence on January 12, 2022. He was born to the late Levi and Beatrice Bitler in Lancaster, OH on December 31, 1935.
Jack put in years of service for the Liberty Union and Baltimore Community. These include: Booster Club President, where he helped build the original field house and ball field; volunteered for the athletic department as a referee; drove teams to and from their events; 1981 Athletic Booster of the Year; 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee; several decades served as coach for Liberty Union and Fairfield Union Little League baseball, VFW, and basketball. He worked for South Central Power, and was a custodian and bus driver for Liberty Union. Jack enjoyed helping people with home renovations, and was a great neighbor. He was even able to build his own home. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing vacations. He was adamant about spending many hours watching and supporting his grandchildren show livestock and play sports, where he was even honored as the fan of the game during a basketball game.
He is survived by his children, Gary (Susie) Bitler, Cathy (Vince) Keeney, Robert (April) Bitler, Amie (David) Rowland, Jeff (Elizabeth) Bitler, and Bonnie (Chad) Sims; 18 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; siblings, Larry (Barbara) Bitler, Shirley Hartman, and Peggy (Bill) Bitler; sister-in-law, Kay (Jerry) Miller; and special friends, Richard Blackstone, Jean Powers, Roger and Lisha Baker, and his Thimmes Fish Shack friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara J. Bitler; siblings, Levi Bitler Jr., and William Bitler; and his parents.
Funeral service for Jack will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 22, 2022 at The Grove Community Christian Church, 3420 Blacklick Eastern Rd NW, Baltimore, Ohio 43105. Caring Cremation will follow the service, and burial will take place at a later date in Union Evangelical Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Baltimore, on Friday from 4-8 PM.
