Jack L. Burnside

Jack L. Burnside, age 83, of Lancaster, Ohio went to the loving arms of his Savior on Saturday, January 2, 2021 with family at his side.  Jack was born in Lancaster and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1956. During high school, he played the drums in the marching band and was active in The Boy Scouts of America, one of the first Lancaster scouts to receive the God and Country Award.  He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy, having entered into service in 1955 through the Eisenhour Buddy 8-Year Commitment Program. He was a self-employed contractor doing residential building and remodeling in the Lancaster area.  Jack was an active member at First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and enjoyed over 40 years of being an usher.  He was a lifetime member of the Lancaster Salvation Army Board and recipient of the William Booth Award. His family was his pride and joy.  He enjoyed joking and spending time with his church family, classmates and lifelong friends.

Jack is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elsie L. (Ball) Burnside, his two sons, Todd (Mary) Burnside of Lancaster, Ohio, and Doug (Kristina) Burnside, of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Alisa, Christian, Noah and Kristin; and great grandchildren, Amelia, Thea and Kameron; his sister, Patricia Ayers; many nieces, nephews, cousins and family.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marcelete Burnside; his brothers, Robert Burnside and Jim Burnside; and granddaughter, Desiree Burnside.

A private service for family will take place at First United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. There will be a livestream of the service at 12:00 PM, on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, which can be viewed by friends and family via the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home Facebook page at the time of the service or at any other time at the leisure of the viewer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Salvation Army, 123 East Hubert Street, Lancaster, Ohio 43130, in his memory.
