J. David Johns

On Monday, March 3, 2025, J. David Johns, loving husband and father of two sons, went to be with the Lord at the age of 83. David was born on October 7, 1941, in Steubenville, Ohio, to Harry and Margaret (Gray) Johns, and he graduated from Steubenville High School. On July 24, 1965, he married Isabelle L. Fages. Together, they raised two sons, Scott and Mark. 

As an electrical draftsman, David worked for many years at Anchor Hocking. A dedicated Freemason, he was a Past Master of Lancaster Masonic Lodge #57 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #301. He was also deeply involved in Scouting, helping many local Boy Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout by guiding them in earning their first-aid merit badge. As a proud grandfather, David never missed his grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals, or countless other activities. Raised by his Scottish grandparents, he could easily slip into a thick Scottish accent or sing a Scottish tune upon request.

David is survived by his sons, Scott (Tina) and Mark (Natalie); grandchildren, Trent, Ben, Audra (Aaron Latiolais), and Emily. He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle; his parents, Harry and Margaret; and his aunt, Betty Gray. 

A funeral service will take place on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 10:30 am at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Diana Gugel officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 5 to 7 pm, with a Masonic service starting at 6:30 pm followed by an Eastern Star service. Burial will take place following the funeral service at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
