Howard “Gene” Weaver, 84, of Lancaster, Ohio lost his well-fought battles with health problems on June 8, 2018. Gene was born in Lancaster on December 12, 1933. He was a 1952 graduate of Lancaster High School. He worked for many years as a machinist and inspector for Essex International, and also for Rockwell International and 3M Manufacturing.
Gene is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet L. (Snider) Weaver; four children and their spouses, Julie and Dan Brooks of Albany, Jeff and Karen Weaver of New Marshfield, Jerry and Tami Weaver of Athens, and Joyce Reese of Blacklick; 11 much beloved grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Denver “Red” and Eleanor Weaver and a sister, Marlene.
Gene was a proud and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was greatly loved in return by his family. Gene was also a dedicated bluegrass music fan who was a long-time fixture at bluegrass festivals throughout Ohio and across the country. He was always ready with a joke and a smile and was beloved by musicians and fellow fans alike. Gene will be fondly remembered by the bluegrass community he was so proud and happy to be a part of. Gene proudly served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1963.
Friends and family may pay their respects at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Tuesday June 12. A family burial service will take place at a later date in Duncan Falls Cemetery.
