Howard Rea

January 22, 1943 — July 19, 2015


Howard A. Rea, age 72, went to be his Lord and Savior on July 19th, 2015. He passed peacefully at the Fairfield Medical Center. He was born in Akron, on January 22, 1943 to the late, William and Margaret Henderson Rea.

Howard was a devout Christian, and his faith was shown greatly in the many services he performed throughout his life. He and his wife were in the Peace Corps from 1966 -1968 in Sierra Leone, Africa. He was a proud member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder, Deacon, Bell Choir and Choir member and director. He also participated in several community and church choirs. Howard was a supporter and volunteer at the Foundation Shelter and was a public school teacher for 30 years. He enjoyed woodworking, was a lover of nature, an early practitioner of recycling and was known for his electric car.

Howard lived out his faith by always helping his neighbors and those in need. An amazing husband, father, and grandfather, Howard will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Kathy Rea; son, Jason (Kara) Rea of Pittsburg; daughters, Lisa (Jon) Holley of Jackson, TN and Krista (Matt) Creeger of Lancaster; Anthony Rogers-Wright of New York City; grandchildren, Lauren, Alison, and Ella Holley, Maggie, William, and Anderson Rea, and Ezekiel Creeger; sisters, Janet (Philip) Griffith and Grace (Dan) Immel; brother, Paul (Joyce) Rea; sisters-in-law, Karen (Jeff) Jones and Wendy (John) Wiseman; brothers-in-law, Kim (Rita) Michener and Philip Michener; and several nieces and nephews.

Caring Cremation™ has taken place through the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERL HOME. A service will take place on Thursday at 11 AM, at the First Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Matthew Richardson. Family and friends may call 2 hours prior to the service at the church.
