Herman L. Truelove, 89, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at his home.
Herman was born August 26, 1925, in Clermont, Georgia, to Beulah (Dunagan) and Clyde Truelove who preceded him in death.
After graduating from high school in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Herman enlisted in the United States Navy. Late in World War II, Herman served on the destroyer escort USS Goodrich. After his discharge, he attended the Georgia Military College. In April of 2009, Herman flew on an Honor Flight to see the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Herman was a 48-year-member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW 683) and worked on several industrial sites and buildings in downtown Columbus during his career. He also spent 18 months at Prudhoe Bay working on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System.
Herman lived for many years in the Hilltop neighborhood of Columbus and spent the last 30 years living in the Lancaster area.
Herman enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing poker at the IBEW Hall, reading Westerns, watching college sports, and the companionship of his dogs. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Herman is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Ann (Carr) Truelove; daughter, Mary Truelove; sons, Tom (Linda) Truelove, Bob (Patty) Truelove and Scott Truelove; and bonus daughters, Susan (Susheel) Srikonda and Maureen (Mark) Secrist ; 11 grandchildren, Katie (Brandon) Straughn; Jessica Truelove and Madeline (James) Lamb; Annie Truelove and Bobby Truelove; Duncan Truelove; Marc (Breanne) Prosch, Carolyn Prosch and Rebecca Prosch; Raina Srikonda and Vikram Srikonda; and four great-grandchildren, Leia Straughn and Emma Straughn, Livy Lamb and James Lamb. He was also preceded in death by bonus son Bryan M. Prosch, and by his first wife, Nancy (Truelove) Wilkes, his children's mother.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster with Rev. Robert McDowell officiating.
Caring Cremation has taken place by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130. Friends may visit Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
