Herbert Neel

Herbert S. Neel, 94, of Lancaster, died on Satruday, December 17, 2011.

Herbert was an automotive mechanic for many years. He loved reading and music, especially playing the piano and clarinet. He enjoyed his prized 1925 Model T Ford Roadster. Herbert was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army 27th Div. serving in the Pacific Theater, including Saipan and Okinawa. He was also the recipient of 2 bronze stars.

Herbert is survived by his children, David Allen (Ruth Ellyn) Neel, John Richard Neel, and Patricia (Christopher) Neel Dittoe; sisters, Gladys Neel Shetrone and Marjorie Neel Price; and many nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Souslin Neel; daughter, Mary Adeline Neel; parents, Herbert Spencer Neel, Sr. and Adeline Fleming Neel; and siblings, Donnell Henry Neel, Mary Neel Stalder, Wilma Neel Deyo, John Wesley Neel, Arthur Allison Neel, and Nina Neel Martin.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster with military burial honors by the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail. Family and friends may visit from 11:30-1:30 Tuesday at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME in Lancaster.
