Harry E. Hiles

Harry E. Hiles, age 85, passed away on February 3, 2024 at the Pickering House in Lancaster. 

He was born in Lancaster, Ohio on May 30, 1938 to the late Harold and Jane Hiles. Harry graduated from Thurston High School, class of 1956, and was inducted into the Liberty Union - Thurston Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. 

Harry was a retired Lieutenant for the Lancaster Fire Department with 31 years of service. He continued to serve the citizens of Lancaster for another 12 years as the 5th Ward City Council member. Additionally, Harry helped hundreds of students successfully complete their drivers training with the Carroll Lyn Driving School. 

Harry was a Mason, and long time member of the Moose and Eagles. He was a boxing and MMA judge for many years and was a strong supporter of the Lancaster Police Athletic League. 

Harry is survived by his wife of 46 years Sandi Hiles; children Dana (Debbie) Hiles, Devonna (Myke) Henderly, Debra Medley, Bob (Angela) Shick, and Travis (Jennifer) Shick; grandchildren Rebecca, Elizabeth, Joe, Erikka, Samantha, Jeyden, Grace, Gage, Katie, Zach, Courtney, and Eddie; 9 great grandchildren; brother Larry (Lorraine) Hiles; sister in law Connie Saunders; and many other relatives and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; father and mother in law Bob and Helen Martin; and his son Doug Hiles.

Caring Cremation® has taken place through the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster, Ohio. 

The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. 

Harry’s family would like to thank the staff of Fairfield Medical Center, FairHope Hospice, the Lancaster Fire Department, Caretenders, doctors Johnson, Buckley, Nickison, Wilmer, and their staff for their care during his later years.
