Gwendolyn Lois (Liddle) Burns, age 92, of Lancaster, formerly of Zanesville, passed away at the Pickering House on October 3rd, 2011. She was born May 30, 1919 at St. Clairsville, OH to her parents, Harry Hudson and Flora (Mobley) Liddle. She was a member of the first United Methodist Church, she was a WWII Navy Veteran, she was a graduate of West Liberty State Teachers College and The Kent State University she taught school for 22 years, 14 in Zanesville. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Retired Teachers Organization, the All Around Club, Grace United Methodist Church and Nancy Hagan Circle. Affiliate member of Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, active in Christian Women's Club of Sun City West, AZ., active and Past President of the YWCA of Zanesville.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Margaret nee Naughtin) Burns of Spalding, NE; daughter, Dinah J. Burns (Richard J Elston) of Strasburg, OH; grandchildren, Jana Burns, Caryn (Jim) Reynolds, Katherine Thompson (Donald) Margaret Ehlen; great-grandchildren, Austin Back, James Thompson, Gwendolyn Thomnpson, John Byron Thompson, Henry Edward Thompson, and Declan Reynolds; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Byron Burns, one grandson, Michael Burns, her parents Harry Hudson and Flora Liddle and brothers, Royce and Merle Liddle.
Memorials can be made to the Zanesville Morrison House in memory of Michael Burns or to the Fairhope Hospice 282 Sells Rd. 43130.
Caring Cremation has taken place through the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME in Lancaster. A memorial service and burial at Belmont Cemetery will take place on Sunday, April 22nd, 2012.
