Gregory Michael Kasson, 58, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away on December 30th, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Gregory was born on February 6th, 1962 to the late Michael and Martha Kasson in Columbus, Ohio. After graduating from Pickerington Central in 1980 with All-state honors in football, he went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business at The Ohio State University where he was a member of ROTC.
After graduation he married the love of his life and best friend, Theresa. They humbly and proudly served our country as he became an officer and pilot in the United States Air Force and later served in the Ohio Air National Guard. His stories as a pilot and instructor pilot have entertained and inspired his loved ones throughout the years. Greg and Tracy’s memories in the military are filled with great adventures, even greater friendships, and giving life to their beloved children. After his service was completed Greg moved his family to Ohio, and without fear or hesitation started a successful business by building beautiful custom homes. He was the hardest working man, determined to provide for his family. His family meant everything to him and he could often be heard encouraging married couples to have large families because his family gave him so much fulfillment, purpose, and joy.
Greg’s mother named him well, for he was a very gregarious, generous, faithful, and a dependable man. His big belly laugh could be heard throughout hallways and rooms at any family or social gathering. Greg’s faith anchored and guided him throughout his life. His deep love and service to God was the greatest gift he left for his loved ones. He was a Knight of Columbus and parishioner at St. Mary the Assumption Catholic Church. He was always silently and generously helping others. One of his proudest projects was the convent and altar he built for the Children of Mary in Newark, Ohio. He loved ‘his nuns’ and their prayers gave him such comfort and strength.
Greg was also a man of many passions. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and sports fan. But out of all his titles and hobbies his favorite and most treasured was “Poppy”. Watching is grandchildren grow was the highlight of his life.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Martha Kasson, his in laws Richard and Patricia Hinterschied, his Aunt Edna Buchman, and his infant son Paul Adam Kasson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Theresa June Kasson (Hinterschied); his children Rose (Nicholaus) Nessley, Benjamin Kasson, Patricia (Roy) Schweinfurth, and Gregory Kasson; his eight treasured grandchildren, Aubrey, Clark, Cecilia, Juliette, and Miles Nessley, Noah, Maria, and baby Schweinfurth; siblings Brian (Beth) Kasson, Kevin Kasson, and Christina (Christian) Miller; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Greg requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Children of Mary, 8353 Pleasant Chapel Rd, Newark, OH 43056; or The Women’s Care Center, 3273 E Main St, Columbus, OH 43213.
